Smoking
This year alone cigarettes will kill over 420,000 Americans, and many more will suffer from different kinds of cancers, circulatory and respiratory system diseases. These horrible illnesses were known to originate from cigarettes for years. Although smokers constitute the majority of people who suffer from cigarettes, they are not the only ones ailing from cigarette smoke. Cigarette smokers affect the health of tens of thousands of nonsmoking Americans a year. Of those who do not smoke 53,000 will die and countless others will suffer from cardiovascular diseases. The amount of second-hand smoke inhaled by the typical nonsmoker is equivalent to one cigarette smoked per day. Even that amount of cigarette smoke can damage a person's heart. Opponents to the banning of cigarettes will argue that it will create a profound negative impact on the economy. Cigarette smoking is increasing throughout time among mainly teens and adults seem to have a slight decrease since they are trying to quit. With the cost of cigarettes rising to almost four dollars for a box of 20, people do not see how much money they can save. An average smoker who smokes 5 cigarettes a day can save up to $364.00 a year. They do not re
Though some cigarette smokers may not agree with what makes a person stop smoking and have their own reasons. They may disagree with the reasons and say they did not start smoking for those reasons, but they have to see the there are major risks in smoking to themselves and others. It may be true that they do it to free themselves from stress and pressures of their everyday life. In the end, they do not see the stress they put their loved ones through when they may encounter a health risk. Cigarette smoking is very dangerous. Smoking causes cancer of the mouth, larynx (voice box), pharynx, esophagus, urinary bladder, and lungs. Smoking can also cause coronary heart disease. Non-smokers can also get lung cancer from sitting or working in smoke-filled rooms. Even though smokers know all this, they continue to endanger the lives around them, as well as their own, but as many people have experienced it is not because they want to, it is because they cannot stop. Cigarette smoking is a drug and should be treated like one. People are out there screaming for HELP! So people who are smokers or nonsmokers should join forces and help people "kick the habit" once and for all. The most significant cause of why people continue to smoke is for the very reason of their dependence on it. There is a chemical and physiological dependence that factors a smoker. The chemical dependence is the main factor that keeps people from stopping. The nicotine in all tobacco products is the drug that affects the central nervous system and creates a psychological dependence on smoking. Nicotine, which is an alkaloid derived from the tobacco plant, is a potent chemical that has powerful effects on the human body, especially when administered rapidly or at high doses. Nicotine makes it almost impossible for cigarette smokers to quit smoking because of its addictive nature, and with the cigarette manufacturers manipulating the amount nicotine it makes it even harder to quit. Thousands of smokers try to rid themselves of cigarettes but cannot because of the physiological dependence they develop. Smoking is more of a psychological than physical problem and smokers tend to get numerous withdrawal symptoms. They tend to feel dizzy, weak, and nauseous and they do not like these symptoms, so they continue. Out of all the testimonials and polls I received or did,
