Violence In Sport

Sport is a basic feature of any nation in the world. The achievements of athletes have enhanced the images of nations. Participation in sporting activities contributes to the health of millions of people around the world; the teamwork and fair play which are learned on the playing field provide the basis for a good society. However there are shortcomings even in Sports, one of the biggest is violence.
Violence in sport can be defined as a physical assault or physically harmful actions by a player that takes place in a sports context and that is intended to cause physical pain or injury to another player (or fan, coach, game official, etc.), where such harmful actions bear no direct relationship to the rules and associated competitive goals of the sport (Coakley, 1998).
In most of our popular spectator sports, winning depends on the use of violence or aggressive behavior. In order to score and win, athletes' bodies are routinely turned into weapons to be used against other bodies, causing pain, serious injury, and even death. Sport violence is a growing problem in Sports and the best examples here are the National Football League as well as the World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. and certainly the new trend of fighting without rules, called Ultimate Fighting. This problem is also affecting other mainstream sports visible every night on ESPN, we see bench clearing brawls in baseball, bloody hockey fights, soccer mobs, post-game sports riots, and increasing injuries. These are all images of today's sports that are very familiar to us and for some of us even the most anticipated scenes. Today's society is taking a stance against violence, so sports has become an area where some feel that the violent acts such as the hitting and fighting that occurs should not be encouraged but seen as part of the game. Glorification of violence in sport is really unnecessary. .
             II. Review of Literature:.
Spectator violence is a very present issue that not only involves European soccer but has also become known in Major League Baseball.
