Anne Frank

The book Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl has a lot of setting. But most of the story took place in Prinsengracht canal in a warehouse which was called "Secret Annexe". The Secret Annexe, is a warehouse which was just fixed to be a hiding place. It is hidden by lots of doors, stairs, and window. There is office, attic and small kitchen in it. There is a door at each end of the landing, the left leads to a storeroom and the right hand door leads to the Secret Annexe. No one would ever guess that there would be so many rooms hidden behind that plain gray door. The door is concealed by a cupboard. It's dark, gloomy inside. It has lots of room, like Frank's family's room, Anne and Margot's room, a room containing wash basin and small W.C. compartment. There's a big room with stove, radio and sink which can be the kitchen, general living room, dining room and scullery. It is also a bedroom for Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan. There's also a little corridor room which will be Peter's room. There's also a large attic. In the year 1943-1944, while the story was happening, some political circumstances were taking place. When the Frank's went into hiding, Germany was with its height of conquests. During these years, many people were being killed or arrested especially the Jewish people. Some luckily escaped and went into hiding. Some of them were also helped by other people like supporting them with food, clothes and other supplies. World War II was also taking place in those years that can cause more people to die and destructions of things. Last but definitely not the least was the dictatorship that occurred. Leaders like Hittler and Mussolini ruled with dictatorship. They randomly choose people they wanted to kill, arrested them and kill them. Those were the news that was followed by Anne and all of them in the secret annexe with their radio. As long as they were alive, they looked for the day when Germans would be driven from Holland and could emerge from hiding.
