The world we live is full of many people, each and every one of those people have their own idea as to what is art. That is the beauty of it. To an athlete, art may be a sport. To a journalist, art is writing. Even to an accountant, art may me a neat general ledger or the books balancing at the end of the month. People who say that art has no function, obviously do not understanding the broadness of its definition. .
Art is an ability, process and product .
Art is ability. Ability could be a talent or something that we do; usually it is to express ourselves. Art is a process. It is a process that takes time. Most paintings start out as an empty canvas. A novel starts out as a blank piece of paper. For example, someone who draws cartoons will most likely begin with an idea (but that is not always the case), it will at some point probably become a plain pencil sketch. As the artist continues to work on that drawing, it will become more detailed. In the end, it is a colorful piece of art. Art is a product. It is usually a product, like a picture or a painting. .
It is sad to think that some people are so close-minded that they do not see the purpose for art. Do they not have a picture in their office that, if only for twenty seconds, they may glance at to take their mind off the ills and troubles in life. People who do not find the use of art must live in empty concrete houses. I think that someone who says that art serves no function is a very unhappy person with life. Don't get me wrong, not everyone in this world has to be constantly living in a dream world. But to dream once in awhile, is needed to keep people emotionally balanced. Imagine living like a mole, underground in the dirt. What would you see? Nothing. I think that it would be pretty drab and dull. Just like the people who think that art has no function. .
