The world we live is full of many people, each and every one of those people have their own idea as to what is art. That is the beauty of it. To an athlete, art may be a sport. To a journalist, art is writing. Even to an accountant, art may me a neat general ledger or the books balancing at the end of the month. People who say that art has no function, obviously do not understanding the broadness of its definition.

Art is an ability, process and product

Art is ability. Ability could be a talent or something that we do; usually it is to express ourselves. Art is a process. It is a process that takes time. Most paintings start out as an empty canvas. A novel starts out as a blank piece of paper. For example, someone who draws cartoons will most likely begin with an idea (but that is not always the case), it will at some point probably become a plain pencil sketch. As the artist continues to

work on that drawing, it will become more detailed. In the end, it is a colorful piece of art. Art is a product. It is usually a product, like a picture or a painting.

Art has many functions. The poor people who do not understand those functions are probably not as happy as those of use who appreciate the arts. Art can be what you want it to be, it is an output from a person just like a word is, only art helps you to express those feelings you do not know how to put in words. If everyone had an open-mind to art, there would probably be a little bit more harmony in the world. However, since I cannot control someone’s mind and thoughts, I feel sorry for the narrow-minded who do not recognize the importance of art.
