When the war was over, and the Triple entente had won, many started to blame Germany for the war. They started a big peace treaty at Versailles, near Paris. France, U.S.A and Britain made most of the decisions. Germany and Austria were not allowed to be involved. Here are their suggestions on how they feel Germany should be treated: France wanted to punish Germany a great deal as most of the war had taken place in France. They were suffering. Germany had destroyed 750,000 homes, 23,000 factories and killed one and a half million young men. Clemenceau, the French prime minister also wanted to make sure France was safe from another attack and money to pay for repair and loss. Instead of letting Germany pay everything in gold and goods, they should have taken in consideration that since they already had taken back Germany’s conquered land and cut back their military strength they had already lost most of their riches, therefore the total amount of 6600million pounds should have been reduced. I think that Germany was the main cause of the war. However they weren’t the only ones who started it. Austria was the one that started the first battle, using the assassination as an excuse to attack Serbia. It was wrong to let Germany alone pay 6600million pounds in gold and goods, as it was an impossible sum to pay.
