Why The President Should Study Psychology
WHY THE PRESIDENT SHOULD STUDY PSYCHOLOGYSociety is a relatively stable but complex system of parts; each part of the system contributes to the well being of the whole system. Society and culture largely determine the behavior of humans; certain people in certain ways, both good and bad. One example in particular, which I would like to talk about, is our current President of the United States, George W. Bush. Psychology is defined as the science of behavior and mental processes that studies the process of the mind and how we keep hold of information. Behavior is anything an organism does, any action we can examine and write down. As a science, psychology attempts to separate opinions and evaluate ideas with careful observation and analysis. Also, dealing with many theories which further explain important data obtained. In understanding the process of the mind, ways we hold information, behavior of people and other aspects of psychology, I believe it could do President George W. Bush a lot of good to look into studies of psychology. Reasons of which I will further explain. To start off, President Bush could look int
Next, I would like to examine the learning part of psychology. Learning, as defined by the book, is a relatively permanent change in an organism’s behavior due to experience. Learning deals with many things such as classical conditioning, operant conditioning, different experiments and learning by observation, but one thing I will look at is reinforcement in operant conditioning. A reinforcer is any event that strengthens the behavior it follows. Most people think of reinforcers as rewards, but in actuality, anything that serves to strengthen behavior is a reinforcer. If President Bush positively reinforces someone or groups of people, things might be worked out a little easier. Positive reinforcement strengthens a response by presenting a stimulus after a response. For example, attention, approval and money are a positive reinforcement for people. Using these examples to help others out could in turn, help Bush out with his decisions while satisfying the wants and needs of people.
