Bear Bryant’s role in this book is a hard nosed football coach in charge of coaching the Texas A&M Aggies. It’s 1954 and Bryant just lost his job as Kentucky’s head coach to a man who in his way of thinking betrayed him. Bryant takes his rag tag gang of players to a modest place called Junction, Texas. In Junction they are in their worst drought in nearly a decade. Despite the weather, goat heads, sandspurs, and overall climate the Bear is determined to turn his team into tough kids and overall winners. Bryant believes that winning is not judge by the amount of games you win but by the effort your team puts out whenever they set foot on a football field.
