Religion?
I was recently looking over the early posts on my site because I was bored out of my brain, and came to the religion post. When I first wrote it, I thought it was one of the best things I've putton up on the site. Looking at it now, however - Im not as pleased. I think it's a little biased, and overall not as intelligent as it could be. Althought it was written only a few months ago, my mind has come a long way since then, specificly how I write about debatable issues. I think now, its time to echo, revise, and add some topics to make a sort of 'Religion Redux'.It was a long time ago, that I decided I do not belive in god. This was essentially because, although both my parents were devout catholics turned christians, I was always sort of a rebel against the whole religion thing. Ealier however, it wasn't really something I was concious of. Earlier, I was just being a kid. See my mother (the only parent I live with) was a Christian, however the enviornment in our home was not very religious. In my very early years (maybe ages 3-5), I went to church 3 out of 4 weeks of the month. As time went on, it droped from 3 to 2, 1, and presently no church weeks out of the month. Looking back, all I remember is hating church no matter how
Having not gone to chuch in a few years (save the good 'ol annual New Years service), I saw little reason to fear my God. I was wondering the internet one day, when I found a little site called christianburner.com (it's a great site for anyone who wants to check it out). I'm almost positive this was what made me OFFICIALLY 'loose faith'. It was the first time, I saw a structered anti-chrisitanity point of view, that made me think. From there, I found all sorts of atheists/anti-christian websites, all with different opinions. Some agressive, but some, more philosophical. I came up with my own conclusion, that I saw none of this god. I rested on the simple fact, that many stories in the Bible are just as probable as the StarWars saga coming true (ofcoruse, in a galixy far far away). However, some sites went into great detail offering sophisticated-yet-simple explanations of how epics such as 'Noah's Arch' were blatantly impossible. But I dont think it was always as innocent as teaching and inadvertantly converting a immature brain to christianity. No. I have many explainations as to the creation of religion. My sources, are history text books and my own reasoning. Go ahead, take any history course, and you'll learn the facts. Don't shrug them off, read into them and make connections. You'll see that even in ancient Egypts time religion was a point of rulership and domination. But hey, let's not start out so hard on. Upon reading those textbooks, you'll read that the early forms of religion had no set name, nor were they as structered as our present day Christianities, Judisims, of Muslim religions. They were polythesistic, meaning they were focused on many gods. Many is for sure. Early religions were based on fear (this is my opinion -- not historical fact). Then, they had a god for just about anything they could not comprehend. A god for wind, water, earth, cat's (apart from animals since cats were sacred), and anything else you could think of. Crops not going good? Prey to the god of water. Getting cold? Pay hommage to the god wind to lighten up. Love life going down the shitter? Sacrafice some ox to the god of love
