The Crucible

The Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller, takes place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. Miller explains the accounts and happenings of the Salem witch trials in this play, which turns out to be a complicated dramatic piece. During this time in 1692, Salem is struggling and going through a difficult and confusing time. Many of the characters are going through crucibles, severe tests or trials, which changes them in various ways. One of the characters that undergo a crucible is Reverend John Hale, a young minister reputed as an expert on witchcraft. Reverend Hale is called upon in to Salem to examine Parris’s daughter Betty. Reverend Hale’s crucible changes him, and he passes this severe trial. Correspondingly, I am similar to Reverend Hale, because I also pass an ordeal of my own. As a result, my crucible forms me into a person that I am today.
