The holocaust changed history because it was the period of persecution and extermination of Jews by nazi Germany. The persecution of German Jews began with Hitlers rise to power. Jews were terrorized in anti-Jewish riots, their property was taken and they were forced into concentration camps.
After World War two started, Hitler established death camps to do what he called the final solution of Jews. By the end of the war, six million Jews had been murdered.
