Marajuana Is Not a Medicine

The initiative to legalize Marijuana for medical purposes passed in California because scare tactics were used to mislead the public. Supporters of the movement to legalize pot used words such as "medicine" and "life threatening diseases" to trick the citizens of California into voting in favor of the "Free Pot Movement". The public heard these words and voted in favor of the proposition believing that it would bring comfort to those who are sick and suffering. Unfortunately, proposition 215 has nothing to do with medicine and is not bettering this state.

The framers of proposition 215 have admitted that they are using medical marijuana use as a stepping stone towards the free use of marijuana. Dick Cowan, the director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), is quoted "The key [is] medical access, because once you have hundreds of thousands of people using marijuana under medical supervision, the whole scam is going to be brought up...then we will get medical then we will get full legalization" (Use of Marijuana as "Medicine") A similar message appears in High Times Magazine where the director of NORML "expressly stated that the medical use of marijuana is an inte

Better medicine is not what proposition 215 is all about. Proposition 215 did nothing but move us closer to the full legalization of pot. The Pro Marijuana movement failed in it's attempts to legalize marijuana through the federal government, but it succeed against our state. The way in which Proposition 215 is worded implies that it will only apply to seriously ill people, but with a closer look, one will see that the proposition now makes marijuana easier to obtain legally than the mildest of prescription drugs.

Common sense tells us that the outlines for marijuana use, as stated in proposition 215, are simply bad medicine. I would question the sanity of anybody who used a medicine that was not FDA approved; ingested by smoking; made up of hundreds of different chemicals; not subject to product liability; exempt from quality control standards; not governed by daily dose criteria; offered in unknown strengths; and self prescribed and self administered. The whole idea of home grown remedies should have been left behind with the dark ages. Today, we know the science and chemistry behind how medicine works. We might as well use that knowledge when dealing with subjects like the lives of other human beings.

Whether or not marijuana should be legal or not is not for me to say, it is a matter that the public needs to vote on. If the free use of marijuana is to be made legal in this state, then let the people vote for a proposition that is straight forward and clear in it's intents. Legalizing marijuana with proposition 215 is not only deceitful, but also dangerous. A straight forward proposition would include proper guidelines and safety regulations on how the free use of marijuana is to be controlled. Proposition 215 has no such guidelines. Marijuana use has the potential to cause serious problems, and without the proper regulations in place, these problems are sure to arise. Uncontrolled marijuana use would be as devastating as uncontrolled alcohol use. Alcohol is heavily controlled today and yet it still causes severe problems. Imagine the problems if there were no guideli
