Transportation in Hong Kong

Transportation has contributed to connect our lives together everyday. Hong Kong is a small crowded area with 7 million people. Because of her huge population, a good transport system is essential. As a result, people of Hong Kong depend heavily on convenient public transport. Hong Kong has developed an efficient road network with varied means of transports, so that its transport system can operate more conveniently and efficiently.

First of all, there are different forms of transportation in Hong Kong. The most common are taxis, minibuses and buses. For taxis, the style is the same in the U.S but it¡¦s much cheaper, only $1 for a mile. For minibuses, they are convenient because they have stops located at the most populated areas, such as shopping centers, housing estates and most schools. In conclusion, even though Hong Kong is a small city, the development of its transport is so advanced concerning both local and international transport. Although Hong Kong is famous for its achievement on economy and modernization, one may wonder that if we did not have the completed transportation system, could we have this legend today?

Apart from the different means of transportation, Hong Kong has a well-developed transportation network. Tunnels and overpasses are everywhere to make use of limited space. There are three major tunnels to connect Hong Kong: one is Cross Harbor Tunnel, joining Hong Kong Island and Kowloon peninsular together. The other two are East and West Tunnels. Actually, there are two kinds of overpass, one is for vehicles and one is for pedestrians. The government also spends a lot to develop a good transportation network in order to reduce the traffic jams.
