The average American life changed on September 11, 2001. When terrorists attacked the Twin Towers in New York City, people could not believe their eyes. The loss of American lives that were realized in the days following September 11, 2001 came as a shock. Throughout any war, there are always casualties, however the United States of America often attempts to try to keep the casualty number as low as possible. Similarly, to a very prominent time in American history, President Harry Truman along with his advisors were placed in a position where they had to make a consequential decision regarding the utilization of the Atomic Bomb. To drop the bomb meant that many American lives would be saved because Japan would then realize America’s strength. Furthermore, fear would force Japanese military leaders to surrender to the United States. Although the result of dropping the atomic bomb satisfies any further questioning of the subject, there were more factors leading to the decision.
