We All Fall Down is a novel of surprises in my opinion, Cormier presents issues that young people have to deal with and inter-twines them into the events of the story using characters that the audience can associate with and believe. He does so in a very subtle fashion and it helps provide a base for the story and build tension for certain incidents.
The authenticity of the characters in We All Fall Down draws the readers in, as almost everyone can relate to some aspect of the events that take place, whether it be the first love emotions or a jealous rage. Trust in the adolescent world is something of an acquisition and is the key to friendship and love. In the novel the theme of trust is the base for all the reactions of the characters spurred on by their emotions.
