My Best Round of Golf
Every time that I hit the links before I tee off, I remember the best round of golf that I ever had. All the way up until 8th grade when I started playing I always shunned golf, thought it would be easy, and didn’t think it was very cool. I was wrong on all counts; I’m horrible at golf, but I love it. Anytime I get the opportunity I go play in hopes of improving my game in some way. Most of the time I don’t improve at all, I do well with one skill or shot each round, the only consistency I have with my game is putting. Now, I somewhat dread going golfing with my friends because I did not play at all last summer and my game has been quite “rusty” since then. Any of my friends will tell you that I am always the last one on the green, but the first off, and the one with the higher score. But for me, one-thousand bad shots are forgotten for one good shot. Most of my good shots were ruined by my friends telling me that it was luck, which most of the time it was because I am not very consistent at all. When I woke up and got ready to hit the links that June morning la
Thinking it was just a lucky hole, I did the same routine on hole 2… three feet beside the hole, another birdie! I was in the groove then, I finished up four under on the front nine, and by then I was ready to quit because I didn’t want to get too carried away thinking that my luck wouldn’t last, but I wondered… could it? The course of choosing that day was Coonskin, which anyone who plays golf knows that it is a measly, yet somewhat aggravating, par 3 course. Coonskin was/is my home course, it is where I played my first round, and where I played most of my rounds since it is close and relatively cheap; Thirteen bucks for as much golf as you want, can’t beat that even if you are no good. As we went to the back nine I pared the first three holes and remained at four under. I was so excited and we only had six holes to play. I thought to myself even if I play “bogey golf” the rest of the round I will still only be two over par, which for me would be a blessing from the Gods. Well we got to hole 13, unlucky number, and it put a stop to my luck faster than a flat tire stops a car.
