According to the Christians, Christianity is a community, a way of life, a system of belief, a liturgical observance, and a tradition. Christians believe in God as the Heavenly Father. They have been taught to love God and all mankind, which was the central teaching of Jesus Christ. They have also been taught to follow the Ten Commandments set by the Lord (God). They believe that salvation comes from faith in blood atonement of Jesus; the mainline is Faith in Jesus as mediator-Savior. For them Satan is the cause for evil and suffering. Both religions resemble each other a great deal in their respective teachings on love. The moral teaching of the Buddhism has a remarkable resemblance to the Sermon on the Mount. The Sermon, a focal point in the life of the adult Jesus, is stuffed with sayings that appear to be a genuine reflection of what is put forth in Buddhism’s principal text, the Dhammapada (“Religious Sentences”). Jesus for example, is supported to have said in the Gospel of Mark, “ Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it.” The comparison with the Dhammapada is extraordinaire when we read that the Buddha, in like fashion, instructed his followers, “With the relinquishing of all thought and egoism, the enlightened one is liberated through not clinging.” Another example, Jesus said, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” As for Buddha, he instructed his followers to “ consider others as yourself.”

On the other hand, lay worship in Buddhism is primarily individual rather than congressional. Since earliest times a common expression of faith for laity and members of the Sangha alike has been taking the Three Refuges, that is, reciting the formula” I take refuge in the Buddha. I take refuge in the dharma. I take refuge in the sangha.” Another way they worship is when devotees walk around the dome in a clockwise direction, carrying flowers and incense as a sign of reverence. A Ceremony is known as Pirit, in which readings from a collection of protective charms from the Pali canon are conducted to exorcise evil spirits, cure illness, bless building, and achieve other benefits. Buddha’s images serve as focus for worship.
