Fahrenheit 451


            
            
             Guy Montag He is a fireman who makes a living burning books and the houses they are kept in. He is happy with his life and his job until finally he starts to question what he id doing and the reasons he is doing it. His transformation is complete after he crosses the river, after having to burn his own house.
             Captain Beatty He is the antagonist of the novel. He is the head of the fire department and always seems to know when someone has stepped out of line. He likes to quote from books to show why they should not exist. Montag kills him. In him letting Montag do this it shows that he would rather die than live in a world were he is not in complete control. .
             Professor Faber He is a aging intellectual in a society that does not want him. He was once a teacher before schools were closed. His insight shows us what the literate society used to look like before they progressed into an illiterate, ignorant state.
             Minor Character.
             Granger An intellectual and former author. Montag meets him on the other side of the river. He encourages him to remember and comprehend what he has already read. They return to the city after it is destroyed in hopes of building a literate society.
             Main Setting.
             Montags house This is were guy Montag lives with his wife Millie Montag. Montag has hidden books in the air conditioning vent in his own home. He eventually brings them out and shows his wife. She calls the Firemen while he is at work and Guy must burn his own house. He also kills Captain Beatty here.
             The City This is were Montag works. He goes and burns houses down of people that are hiding illegal books. He runs from the Mechanical Hound, through the city after he kills Captain Beatty. He escapes the city just before it is destroyed from a nuclear explosion.
             The River The River is on the outskirts of the city and represents the place were Montag finally "cleans" himself of his past life. He meets wanderers by the railroad tracks.
