On your way to school as you’re walking up the sidewalk you can’t help but to have a tiny tingle in your tummy. Despite the fact that it’s late October, one doesn’t need to recognize the date to sense that a day of “escape” is soon approaching. In the company of only a light jacket the temperature feels precisely just, not cold, on the contrary cool. The tranquil breeze leisurely kisses your cheeks enhancing the excitement for at this time you can smell the assorted aroma of delicately dried leaves and dense moist soil. Despite the damp weather, the air is innocent and crisp. Trees give the impression as if they were set ablaze. Every assortment of colour commencing from saffron to scarlet is obvious. The impression of leaves compressing through every footstep carried out is just as stimulating as the sound they generate. Houses are ornamented with such effort and settled on the porch steps rests a crooked smiling jack-o-lantern. Like the fire that lights up his face, once your eyes meet, you glimmer too. In the weeks previous to Halloween I would be anxiously determining what I desired to modify myself into. Once my preference was comp
lete, the anticipation of selecting my costume was afterward. Everyday, following school the routine was identical; hop in the car and travel store to store rummaging on behalf of the appropriate outfit. After a decent week of searching the nightly dress rehearsals took place. I would spend hours practicing how to apply my makeup, the proper way fasten my attire, and in what way I will exclaim the legendary phrase “trick or treat”.
When I was younger I loved Halloween, and now that I’m older I love Halloween even more. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a member of a cult or sacrifice blue eyed blonds. I’m more into the fact that people can celebrate something together despite their backgrounds. This holiday is all about giving and not wanting anything back. It’s about interacting with people that you don’t even know. Halloween is all about generosity and joyful spirits. (Pretty ironic – I know) For children Halloween was a night where you can escape from reality and join a strange new world. Children were able to change their identities to anything they wished.
