The innovating and evoking documentary “When we were kings” characterises Muhammad Ali as more then just an elite Athlete. Through the use of film language/ techniques we are presented with an image of Ali been a hero, a man of the people and a black activist. Because of this representation formed in “When we were kings” and the way in which they are formed we as an audiences accept theses ideas the film associated with him.

The general idea of Ali being an elite Athlete is shown a lot throughout the film. Through the way he trains we see his persistence what he believes to be his right the ‘heavy weight world champion’. Through this we see his determine and the physical pain he has to put his body through to be able to achieve his goal. We see the high skill level require for boxing and the extreme metal strength require for it. This gives us a contrast to how most people see boxing as just a violence sport. Because Ali is characterise with such qualities the audience is positioned to accept the idea associated with Ali about boxing been much more then a sport about violence.
