Television in Todays Society

The family television is one of the most loved pastimes, and is thought to be one of the greatest inventions. By the push of a button a person can leave his/her life, and move to the perfect one of their favorite soap stars, action heroes, or villains. In other words, with the push of a button a person is simply taken out of reality. Some may say that television brings families together. Many parents watch different programs with their children. But is it a real interaction between parents and children or is a TV a time stealer?

People blame technology for changing natural habitats of many animals, or speaking generally destroying the environment. Programs content is also a big issue, which can cause a problem with communication between children and parents. Not proper programs can harm children’s point of view. At different age stages of their development, children watch and understand television programs in different ways, many of those factors depend on the length of their attention, the way in which they process information and the amount of mental effort they invest interacting with those programs, and it is up to parents to minimize and reduce those effects. With so many violent acts presented in cartoons there is a very likely chance that preschool children will develop some attraction toward violence. Another interesting thing about how preschool children understand television content is that it is hard for them to distinguish reality from fantasy. At this age, preschool children display a strong involvement and even greater comprehension of some TV programs. Therefore it is very important for parents to keep track of what kinds of programs and how much time their children spend in front of an operating TV set. One of the most significant suggestions for parents how they can limit violent effects on their children is to modify their viewing. By reducing their television viewing from one to two hours a day, parents can significantly reduce their aggressive behavior. The examples above are proof that people, especially children are addicted to television.
