Mary is seen many times in the gospel as the mother of Jesus and is also recognised as being a good mother. The first good parenting quality shown by Mary is when she accepts the responsibility of giving birth to Jesus. Mary knew this wouldn’t be and easy thing to do but she still accepted because she believed God would guide her through it.
This reading proves that Mary is a good mother because she became worried when her son went off to a temple and her and Joseph did not know where he was. When she found him after searching for three days, she was surprised but relieved to see him again.
If Mary is the mother of Jesus and Jesus is God, Mary is then the mother of God. Mary is the mother of god in the sense that she carried him in her womb and gave birth to him, not in the sense of being older and raising him, or being older and wiser. Mary is older than G
od in the way that she was older than Jesus and God was living through Jesus.
