There are many possible reasons why teenagers have little communication with their parents. One of the reasons is the generation gap. Meaning the youths of today have many different and new interests compared with their parents. This results in them having more communication with other youths, rather than their parents. A busy schedule of modern life also reduces the amount of time the youths spend at home, which also results in little communication between them and their parents. It is often the case that youths will actively reduce their communication with their parents, when the parents are very strict on him or her. The result of the strict parenting is often that the youth does not want to communicate with them further.
Many teens lack the understanding of the consequences of illegal activities. That is, they do not understand what developments may take place over time in their dealings with Triads or other organized crime groups. A short-term vision of the ‘quick cash’ is thei
r primary goal, and the bigger picture can get somewhat distorted, or missed completely. Teens need guidance of how to avoid such illegal activities, and how to find alternative methods to acquiring cash. This again is possibly information that they do not have due to little guidance.
The lifestyle of these teens is one of a fast moving daily activity. They tend to get involved in one or more activities for instant cash, in order to feed their entertainment and social activities. Their lifestyle will therefore be one of ‘moment to moment’ existence. This means they will match their needs with the necessary activity (e.g illegal) with that of their requirements for their entertainment / personal life. Other aspects of their lifestyle include the range of people whom they will be in contact with. Due to the nature of how they acquire their funds, they will be in contact with a lot of like-minded people, and possibly those who are regularly involved with crime.
