Love Turns
Love can go one way on the first day, and the total opposite on the second day. That’s what is so great about love, you never know where it will take you, but everyone hopes that it leads you along the path of happiness. Where will love take you next? You’ll never know until you take that road. Hopefully you will not have ride along the “Thunder Road”, like Springsteen. His song, as well as Costello’s is very similar, but very unique in its own way. I Want You to follow me along the Thunder Road for a few minutes. Springsteen’s piece is of course a song of troubled love; as well as Costello’s, I Want You. At the beginning of Thunder Road, it seems as if he getting dumped by his girlfriend. It explains this heart break in a different way, but he sings, “The screen door slams, Mary’s dress waves”. It shows that she is mad, or upset, and she slams the door and her dress waves from the breeze, as if she was actually waving good-bye to him with hand. In “I Want You”, the beginning also shows some kind of break up. He says, “Oh my baby baby I love you more than I can tell, I don’t think I can live without you and I know I never will. Then it goes on to say, “I woke up and one of us w
If you have ever fallen in love before, then you know that you can’t express what it feels. No words, pictures, etc. can explain how you felt. These two situations that the artists explain are experiences that do occur in the emotion of love. When you are in love, you think that you are on top of the world, but the only thing is, there is always an end. No matter if it’s a break, breakup, or even death. It will always end with a tear. Both of these times deal with a man wanting more than anything to be with the girl that he believes to be “The One”. After each break up with the two couples, the woman moves on faster than the man. It seems as if he is holding on to whatever he can to keep her close. For example, in I Want You, Costello says, “Did you mean to tell me but seem to forget”, and then moves on to “Its knowing that he knows you now after only guessing, It’s the thought of him undressing you or you undressing”. These two lines show that she has moved on, and she never told him about it. The thought of her being intimate with another man, kills him! Seems like jealousy, but its more sadness. In “Thunder Road”, Springsteen says, “Make crosses from your lovers, throw roses in the rain, Waste your summer praying in vain, For a savior to rise from these streets”. These lines also show that after their relationship was over, she went out with other men, but no one ever was good enough. She was looking the “The One”. Springsteen states that he isn’t perfect, although, he can bring her happiness and get her out of the world that they are both in. Both songs resemble being broken up and wanting their significant other back. For Costello, it’s his life; for Springsteen it’s a plan for a new lif
