Racism
As a result of this high percentage, you may think that I am a racist, but that is not the case. Most of these issues happen to deal with the African Americans because they are not the minority in my town or county. There are many factors that are present that will never allow the disparity of the races to improve. The first problem is in my town, its one that has been around many decades, the restaurants. Around 1985, the town commissioners gave Skats’ a permit to build a Skat-Thru. The reason why they only wanted a drive-thru was because they said they did not want “a place where they (the blacks) could sit around and cause trouble at.” Even today, all we have here in my town is a Drive-Thru Skats. This shows only a portion of the concerns. The housing in my county is very poor. From my experiences, riding around my county, you see rental houses and also many trailer parks. As a result that Halifax County used to be a major slave plantation economy, focusing around agriculture, the African Americans think that the white people owe them something. What they do not understand is that even before the Civil War, most of the men and women were free slaves. This is a major aspect that makes me infuriated thinking about it. They do not want to realize that not all whites are racist. past 12. But the question in my mind is that if they go to church, why do they do Many in my county do not value education. What is so sad about that is, the children who do want to attend school, the children who do want to go to college and get an education are not able to for many reasons. One reason for this is the lack of care from the parents. For me, it was expected from my parents that I was going to college. Education was and still is a major role in my house. I was never asked if I was going to college, I was asked where I planning on attending. The majority of the parents in my family are uneducated. None have a higher than an 8th grade education. The parents have no expectations for themselves; therefore, they have no goals for their children. two or three very nice cars, they wear the nicest of clothes, and so forth. But there are some that wear rags and try their best
