My First Views of Politics


             My first memories of politics were in my late elementry years. It was my father who exposed me to .
             I remember him reading the newspaper looking at the current events. When it was election time he .
             would take me to go see him vote. That experience allowed me to see the energized voters supporting their .
             candiates. When I turned eighteen I recieved my registered voting card. I was really excited because it was my .
             first opportunity to vote. Living in the small town of Eagle Pass, my father was able to educated himself on the .
             candiates running and their views. Then my father in return would inform of the candiates and explain what they .
             stood for. This would help me decide what candiate to choose when it was time to make my choice. I had the .
             opportunity to vote a couple more times in Eagle Pass. Then when I turned twenty I moved to San Antonio and .
             never really made time to learn politics, until now. From what I've learned from my father and Texas politics .
             class, I consider myself leaning towards the democrat side. The reasons that I choose democrats is because of .
             what values they strive for. I will describe in the following paragraphs values that I have seen affect me or .
             someone that I know and could affect me in the future. .
             My first reason that I went democrat is the way they tackle the major issue on Civil Rights and. This value .
             is important to me because I as a minority would like an equal opportunity in being accepted to all schools, .
             work places, communities, and clubs. Democrates believe that America should be a country of equal .
             opportunity and still wage on a war to stop discrimination. They pursue all the equals right of all types people .
             and races like blacks, hispanics, foreign citizens,gays, lesbians, elderly, youth,veterans, handicapped, and .
             most of all womens rights. Democrates have pushed for acts like (EDNA) Employment Non-discrimination Act .
             that provided federal protection in the work place from sexual discrimination.
