The Accidental President

David Kaplan’s book, The Accidental President: How 413 Lawyers, 9 Supreme Court Justices, and 5,963,110 Floridians (Give or Take a Few) Landed George W. Bush in the White House, covers the United States presidential elections of 2000. Although one may think otherwise from the title, this book is not another anti-bush tirade. The book gives the immediate sentiment of neutrality—to a certain degree: it does not immediately deride Bush or Gore. Rather, this book concentrates on telling the complete story of the entire election of the 43rd president, and its many downfalls and errors. George Bush is the subject of some criticism, but it is mainly because he is the final (elected into office) outcome of this circus-like fiasco.

David Kaplan is a writer for Newsweek, who has much experience and insight into the entire matter. With his book, he takes us inside a significant moment in American history—one would be the topic of discussion for years to come. Kaplan does what he can with bias. Of course, everyone has their own bias. Judging from what is written; I can easily identify Kaplan as a democratic liberal (supp
