Primarily, global warning is a matter that scientists can not stop for it increases everyday. First of all, the greenhouse effect is a huge disaster going on in this world that only a few take into consideration. “The actual greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon, existing for eons before humans even appeared on the scene” (Salmon 25). Though the changes have been small they are expected to grow and speed up. “Warming occurs when various gases are trapped in the atmosphere and block the escape of the earth’s radiation to space” (Edgerton 13). Because the extra gases are not allowed to expand, our summers feel like saunas and not like a cool 75 o F. Another characteristic of the greenhouse effect is its inability to brake down certain elements. One compound element that can not be broken down is carbon dioxide. “The only way to predict how much carbon dioxide will be released into the atmosphere in the decades ahead is to predict how much energy will be consumed…” (Gribbin 119). The more CO2 man puts in the ozone the harder it will be to brake it down and release it into
Furthermore, much evidence exists showing effects of global warming. One effect of global warming is the rising of the seas. "Atmospheric warming will cause ocean volume to expand as it is heated, and glaciers and ice sheets will melt rapidly; with runoff pouring into the sea" (Kraljic 71). This is going to happen because as learned in science when ice water is heated, it expands, and it increases in volume. When this does occur "... the 275 small island states of the Republic of Maldives may disappear..." (Kraljic 70). Another effect of global warming is climate changes. "From our knowledge of geophysics, we can say that the...temperature change of 3-5 degrees will lead to..."drought (Ecological Consequences 3). As the temperature rises the sun will begin to absorb water and dry up lakes and rivers. For example, "[w]ater levels in the Great Lakes could drop by a foot..." (Kraljic 74). Finally, global warming will have an effect on the ecological level. "...[a] warming will substantially modify the human environment in the middle latitudes and will have major impacts on the quality everyday li
