Imagine a young girl, pregnant with an unwanted child. She does not have the funds to support a child in a healthy and productive manner. She hears through her friend that there is a doctor that will get rid of the child for her. But under the circumstances that they meet in a secrete ally, and perform the operation there. Can you imagine that young women had to go through that? Probably not, but before the 1971 Supreme Court decision in Roe v Wade, there were thousands of women who risked their lives in illegal abortions.

Women should continue having the right to decide what happens to their bodies, including the decision whether to have an abortion or not. The constitution states that we the people have free speech and free religion. Why would they question a young woman possessing the choice of whether or not to go through with the pregnancy? Although the decision of having an abortion is a difficult one, in the long run it may benefit society to not have unwanted children. When a mother is forced into bearing a child, and she does not have the money and time to spend on the child, it illustrates consequences that will affect the child in its development. Although Roe v. Wade has been in affect for thirty years, abortion is still debated powerfully. It is very likely that Roe v. Wade will be revisited, especially seeing how conservative the administration today is. Everyday there are fights between pro life and pro-choice organizations. Discrimination, the act that our society looks so forcefully down on, is so strappingly in effect. If a young girl, or any woman for that matter, wants an abortion, then let her do with her body what she wants. Our bodies are our private property, and to have someone else tell us what we can and can?t do to them defeats the whole concept. A pro choice activist who underwent a legal abortion in 1973, once said that, ?When you?re choosing how you want to be in the world, being able to choose abortion is just as much a part of that as being able to choose if, where, when, and how you will have a baby. It?s all intertwined.?
