Waves

There are four main parts to every ocean wave, the crest, trough,

wavelength and wave height. The crest is the highest point of the wave which

is above the water level. The trough is the lowest point of the wave it is a

valley between crests below the average water level. The wavelength is

determined by measuring the distance from crest to crest. The wave height is

determined by measuring from trough to crest. Another thing you can

measure on a wave is its amplitude or its maximum extent of a vibration, this

can be found by measuring the distance from the equilibrium (the middle of
