Backpacks or Back Pain

Students carry around heavy backpacks because they have to bring their books and other items to school with them. However, heavy backpacks are the cause of most of the back problems found in today’s students. From hours of studying, sitting at computers, sitting in class for hours, and carrying a backpack, students develop definite back injuries. Schools have also adopted having class sets of books at school, but they, too, have advantages and disadvantages. Having two sets of books, one at home and the other at school in the appropriate classroom, reduces backpack weight significantly. This makes backpacks less bulky, and weapons and illegal substances are better spotted. Another positive of this is the fact that bringing the same book home every night is unnecessary. For example, if a new lesson in math is taught most of the days of the week, the math book would have to be brought back and forth from home and school for the new lesson and to finish homework. However, with class sets, there would be no need to carry the book during the school year. Also, the excuses of failure to do homework or participation in class cannot be made. With all the advantages, there are some disadvantages, such as a small amount of time is wasted to pass out books and return the books. There are also minor hazards of backpacks left out in aisles, causing students to trip.

Thus I conclude that backpacks are a major problem on campus these days and that there is a remedy for this problem. Some of the methods to solve this problem are having lockers at the university aisle ways. Another good remedy would be having student take notes electronically. In this way they wouldn’t have to carry notebooks to school and have websites for their textbooks. This would help them refrain from carrying heavy backpacks. The best way to solve this problem to carry the backpack in a proper manner.

Although lockers are an alternative to heavy backpacks, there are advantages and disadvantages to having them on the school campus.
