Plastic Surgery?

“Trading on people’s insecurities or just another form of personal grooming.”

Is it the confidence boosting, image enhancing miracle it claims to be or is it slowly subtly standardising our population and preying on the weak and vulnerable.

What started life as a very rare and drastic procedure to help victims of burns, dilapidating diseases and other suchlike atrocities to live a more normal and fulfilling life, has snowballed to such a magnitude that girls as young as fourteen are wanting tummy-tucks, nose jobs and breast enlargements.

Has it gone a step too far or is it ones right to express themselves in their own individual and unique way.

If plastic surgery always succeeded in achieving its objectives, was exempt of pain and was free of charge the only protests against its practice would be ethical ones. Is it right to ‘defy’ God and choose how you look - every inch; every minute detail.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Is this phrase accurate in this new and increasingly judgemental world or is that a thing of the past and is - ‘Beauty now in the eye of the consumer?’

as good as the option of plastic surgery sounds for correcting that wonky nose or removing that big hairy mole, the only arguments against it are not ethical ones – there is only too real a risk of side effects, unsatisfactory results not to mention a much lighter wallet (or purse in the majority of cases.)

In addition, many people have been able to further their careers, love lives and circles of friends; from exotic dancers (for want of a better example) to receptionists. Which again is thanks to plastic surgery.
