The Ford organization manufactured the Model N, which was a large expensive automobile. Henry Ford decided to manufacture a small car and mass market it for less than 1000.00 dollars. His “common people” automobile, the Model T, became the best-known car in the world, with over 17 million having been sold.

The development of the automobile has impacted the nation and the world in many ways. Technology developed rapidly as more and more technological innovations were developed. Although the economy suffered ups and downs, the automobile industry was important to the country’s financial health. The society, as a whole, changed with the mobility that the automobile provided.

Technology also took off during this time period. As the number of major auto producers dropped, competition among the “Big Three” soared. Companies were forced to compete for a variety of auto styles at low costs. The emphasis was focused on a wider range of styles and mechanical developments. “Ford constantly experimented with gravity slides, conveyors, and placement of men and tools for maximum efficiency.” ( 46 Illustrated) Chrysler was responsible for many technological advances such as the “floating power” system.
