There are many different cases of unrequited love in “Le Bossu de Notre Dame”. Throughout the thirteen chapters I have seen unrequited love between many of the main characters. Four men are in love with Esmerelda, yet Esmerelda loves only one. Two women are in love with Phoebus, but it seems he has some difficulty deciding which one he feels stronger for. In this novel is a bizarre series of love triangles, much like a modern day soap opera. As you will undoubtedly notice, most of the unrequited love in this book centers on Esmerelda.
