If you like football and Sunday afternoons are for you to kick back, relax, and watch some football then listen up. When you’re watching your team in the big game and there is a third down you might not think anything of it, but when your team doesn’t get that first down the dreaded punt team has to come out and do their job. Most fans hate to see their team’s punter come out, but the punter is a valuable part of the team. So today you’re going to learn how and what the punter does to keep his leg in shape, how to practice punting, and pregame and game preparations. Every football fan out there thinks that the punter has the easiest job out there on the field, well they’re wrong. To be a punter is hard work, especially professionally, and takes a lot of responsibility upon themselves. A punter has to get his kicking leg in shape and keep it in shape throughout the season and off-season. Many people think you have to lift a lot of weights on your lower body to get better at punting, but that’s wrong. Many punters will tell you it’s all repetition and practice. So if you ever become interested and want to be a punter then now you know how to keep your leg in shape, how to punt the ball, and how to prepare and execute for punting in a game. or an hour or two and work hard at what you should be working on, then you’re going to be good. You run a little bit in between that and you’ll have a punting leg and have it in shape. Once you have a good solid punting leg, then you want to start to work on the basics. Next, if you want to be a consistent and very good punter, then you have to work on all aspects of your punting. There is many ways you can punt when you get in the game. If it’s a high floater, to a line drive in the wind, or even one out of bounds, then you’ll have to work on all of them. You’ll always want to work on hang time, which is how long the ball is in the air once it leaves your foot. Anywhere from three to four seconds is a good hang time. To work on your hang time it all depends on how you drop the ball. To get a high punt you want to drop the ball early and connect with it at a high point of the drop.
