Investigation into the distribution of dandelions and plantains at Thomas Telford and the Town Park.Factors that affect the distribution of plantains and dandelions. Different amounts of light could cause a different variety of plants to grow in the separate areas. As shown in the table below the light intensity was greater in the grounds of Thomas Telford, because there were fewer tree’s shading the school area. However in the Town Park there were many tree’s present which shaded the grounds where the dandelions and plantains were. This meant that they would be shaded from the sunlight and would photosynthesise a slower rate because of the lack of sunlight. A different light intensity could create different numbers of species in the area’s as well as causing them to be spread out over a wider area, creating more competition and causing some species to receive less light than they need for photosynthesis and won't survive.
ide optimum conditions for different plant species, and so they will have greater abundance and will be more concentrated than other plant species. The temperatures at both the sites visited were different. The temperature at the town park was 16.6oC and the temperature at the school was 22.1 o C. The difference in temperature could be due to many factors. Some of which I will list below. Soil types may greatly affect the chances of a plant species surviving and even striving, as different amounts of moisture will be held in it, with different types and amounts of nutrients. This can cause only species adapted to cope with these conditions to survive and thrive if there isn't much competition, and others to die out due to the conditions and competition.. Other factors and observations which could have affected distribution. Whether the soil is alkaline or acidic and the extent to which they are can greatly affect the plant species which are able to grow there. If the soil is too acidic, many plants will not be able to survive, only those whic
