With America at war, the country has fallen into a great depression. Millions of dollars are being lost on a daily basis, and many different business industries are feeling the negative effects from it. However, one industry is steadily increasing in funds day by day. It is the Consumer Electronics Industry, also known as the “Gadget Industry”. A Gadget is defined as, “Any small mechanical electronic device or contrivance.” Basic examples of these range from computers, to phones, to calculators, and even devices such as toasters. Their function doesn’t decide whether they are considered a gadget or not. All that matters is that they are small and are functioned by some type of mechanism. In recent years, this industry has established itself as one of the highest grossing industries to date, and it’s still increasing at a swift rate. There are also many assorted disadvantages within the consumer electronics market. One of the main problems within this market is cheap production. For every helpful and innovative gadget being produced, there is a cheap and non-useful one being produced at the same price. The gadgets are called “copycat” gadgets. They get their name from copying a high grossing product, and selling it for a lesser price. One example of this would be a CD player that requires complicated assembly. Also, the longevity of these products are know for being short. Another example of a great product would be the Door Stop Alarm (Fig.2). The Door Stop Alarm is a door wedge and an intruder alarm in one. “If you’re staying in a foreign country, or you just want to keep uninvited guests out of your room, simply switch the battery powered alarm on and place against the closed door.” If the door is opened, it will push against the alarm panel and trigger a 118 decibel alarm siren and warn you against any possible intruders.
