Hospitality Service Trend (Ecotourism)

Environmental protection is not only a problem of each country it is also a serious and complicated issue all over the world. Ecotourism was adopted in the mid 1970's. Ecotourism is responsible travel that conserves natural environments and sustains the well being of local people and tourists. This type of tourism developed from a small sector of global tourism to an estimated 20 to 30% today. "This growth represents not just a change in number, but a change in kind: new eco tourists are less purist than their predecessors, who truly roughed it' without creature comforts, and demand lodging with some of the amenities of a mainstream hotel (Johnson, 111). .
Ecotourism relies upon the protection of natural attractions for its survival, and indeed, natural attractions whether landscapes, wildlife, rain forests or coral reefs, are increasingly to be found in protected areas. Both in privately and publicly - owned protected areas the demand for access to natural attractions is growing in some cases extremely rapidly. National Parks and private reserves are under growing pressure to provide access to a growing number of visitors. "Increasingly, ecotourism has come to refer to nature - oriented vacations in endangered landscapes taken by travelers from industrialized nations. The purpose is double, and perhaps even contradictory. First, countries promoting this type of tourism hope it will make them money and provide jobs. Second, it is thought that ecotourism will have a lower social and environmental costs than does resort - oriented tourism."" (Mihelic,139). In fact, ecotourism is turning out to be not very lucrative. For instance, the experience in itself engenders in the tourist frugality and enjoyment of simple pleasures. Moreover, it is difficult to design ecotourism experiences that are authentic and that don't themselves do environmental damage. .
Ecotourism is becoming increasingly popular in developed countries, as most of the 1000 national parks in the world today are in developed nations.
