In the movie Iron Monkey, the most obvious characteristic that we can see is people’s dressing styles, and hairstyle, pigtails (Qing dynasty). From the film, we could see people lived during that period were very poor. The movie has a scene that showed this poverty problem. The doctor gave a free diagnose and medicine to a poor patient. Another patient saw it, and ask the doctor why did he need to pay for medical fee but the poor patient doesn’t. The doctor simply answered him that because he is a rich man. These two films not only give us a view of martial arts. It also gives us an opportunity to look at the old China and Japan. Today, these old societies and cultures already become an important element of produce martial arts films.

We can also see the past of the Japan from the movie, Seven Samurai. One of the most obvious thing that we can see from the movie is old Japan’s castle system. Samurais were elite. If people from the lower level disrespect them, they have their right to kill the lower level people with their swords. We could also see this from the movie that the peasants did not even dare to disrespect the samurais. The other point we can also see from the movie is that, Japan did not have a wealthy society. Peasants did not have any reward for samurais for fighting the bandits except for 3 meals of rice.
