· They started off coming to the new world for religious purposes, but that quickly changed.

“…’We did admire, how it was possible such wise men could so torment themselves with such absurdities, making religion their colour, when all their aim was profit.’”

· They were Puritans who based every moment of their lives on religion.

· They believed that they were sent to the new world by God.

Document A: “…so that if we shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken, and so cause him to withdraw his present help from us, we shall be made a story and by-word through the world.”

· They did not value their indentured slaves and often sold them, traded them, and treat them with great disrespect and injustice.

· Everyone had to be with a partner at all times.

-Puritans make a law about minimum wage because they believe that it will allow everyone the time and money to give their families the opportunity to become closer to God.

Document F: “There was no talk… but dig gold, wash gold, refine gold, load gold.”

· They brought 3 times more men than woman to the new world.
