Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, and Edgar Allen Poe are some of the authors that come to mind when literature is mentioned, but have you ever considered Andrew Nelson, Cubby Broccoli, Barrie Osborne or David Heyman, most of these names you have most likely never heard of but their work is just as famous as any of the authors listed above. Just because they direct a film rather than wrote a book, poem or a play they are easily overlooked in the literature category. Movies are just as important in the world of literature in my opinion than any poem, novel, or play.

I recently conducted a poll among junior high and high school students to get their response and what they thought of the matter. I found out that 53% of the 80 kids polled thought movies were a form of literature and 78% felt that movies expressed ideas that were important to them. I also found out that 52% of the kids polled don’t like to read and would prefer to watch a movie.
