The Great Gatsby - Interpretation of Chapter 4
Daisy was born in Louisville, Kentucky as „Daisy Fay“. I suppose „Fay“ alludes to „fairy“, because her childhood was like a fairy tale: she grew up like a princess, having everything, being rich, being beautiful, bein the most popular girl in town. All men dreamed of her. She has always pretended to be innocent, but in reality she´s attracted by money so much that you could call her, well, „corrupt“. She promises more than she gives, for example with her singing voice with is charming men. She live in her own artificial world of the rich and the famous, ignoring reality and the troubles of life. But sometimes it breaks out in one of her crisis and she doesn´t know how to help herself and expects the others to take care of her. Überleitung: As I said, every man was crazy for Daisy, and so was and still is Gatsby. His only motivation for everything he does is his dream of Daisy. He seems to have the necessity to be moving always and to have a never-ending energy. This behaviour is said to be typical American because of the American games like football, basketball or baseball, which are full of energy, dynamics and movement. And so the result of the championship was fixed before the final match had taken place. The „American Dream“ topic is also mentioned in this chapter: When we have a look at the list of Gatsby´s guests in the summer of 1922, which also is an experiment with verbal jokes, we notice that all kind of people visited these parties, rich, newly rich, famous, or even persons who are still trying to become it. The atmosphere also is sort of mysterious, because we see that we can´t belief everything which is told us. We see that Gatsby actually ge
