A Founder of Psychology

When first assigned this research paper, the only Stanley Hall I knew was the man who

wrote all those textbooks in Junior High. After some research however, I found a different man.

The G. Stanley Hall I found was almost solely responsible for the way junior high and high

school lessons are conducted and geared more towards adolescents. In fact if it were not for him,

I might not be the college student I am today. For his contributions to psychology and education

it is very easy to see why his influence can not be overlooked.

The year was 1844 when Hall was born to a woman by the name of Abigail in the small

town of Ashfield Massachusetts. Since he was pushed into ministry from early childhood, this

gave him the perfect opportunity to achieve an education. However, by the age of 14, he realized

the church was not the right direction for him, and began keeping careful vigils on everyday

people. By 1862 he left Ashfield for Williston Academy. Not liking this choice, he opted for a

different school the following year, Williams College. After graduating in 1867, he attended the

Union Theological Seminary for a year before l
