Local High School Deputy Principal Not Meeting Student’s NeedsToday marks the beginning of what could be the most morally contentious event of the Singapore American High School’s history: the day a student finally had the balls to bring his case against the local Deputy Principal, David Norcott. And after 2 years, there is an emerging consensus: we, the students of the Singapore American School, have a complete failure on our hands. Seeing as how Norcott has not gone through the troubles to publish his mission statements and goals to the public, one is forced to define the duties of a competent Deputy Principal his or herself. The duties a competent Deputy Principal has to his/her students are to support and help guide them through any dilemmas or difficulties they may be faced with during the course of their school career. He is to provide mediation and support during times of when a parent of student is in conflict with the staff over a curriculum-related matter. He is also expected to make available means for s
Many have concluded that his lack of toleration and sadistic love for punishment often leads him to the frequent reprimanding of offenders, offenders who are left with a bad taste in their mouth and a reaction of incredibility at having been “given a talking to.” Those offenders who have had the privilege of being able to visit Norcott’s office all share similar opinions of how much he talks while not allowing the opposing party to get his or her words in. In those rare instances that Norcott stops his mouth and turns his head to listen, his ears mysteriously close resulting in many believing that he does not truly consider the words of others besides himself. The above-mentioned tribulations of Norcott’s rule are enough to conclude that Norcott does not fulfill the duties to the student body of a competent Deputy Principal, and is therefore not a competent Deputy Principal.
