Gaining Perspective

“Work hard…let’s focus…we need more intensity,” I heard the coaches scream these words from across the field. During my four years of playing football for Scotts Valley High School, I heard these kinds of quotes all the time. Another responsibility of coaching is to offer balance to the players. It is important to build the teams confidence after a tough loss, but it is equally crucial to remind the players not to be over-confident after a big win. This element of coaching has been an important lesson.

Not only have my responsibilities and environment changed, I have changed a great deal during the last few months as well.
