Daring to Discipline
It is funny to me, to look back and think about my years as a youth. The way I thought, the things I did, what my priorities were, have all changed since I have now reached adulthood. Although I am just venturing into the age of adulthood, experiences in my life have caused me to ¡§grow up,¡¨ a little faster than my age has brought me. As I read the instructions for this writing assignment, it wasn¡¦t difficult for me to think of something I am truly passionate about, parenting. I love being a parent. I love every aspect, but what I enjoy the most is watching my child morph into this little person, with her own mind and own persona. Sounds kinda funny to use the word morph, but really life begins at conception and then at birth it is introduced. I knew I was going to love being a parent, but I never anticipated it would feel like it does, it is truly an amazing adventure. They say instead of dealing with each situation that arises individually with consistent discipline, that it is better to ¡§distract the child with something else to do.¡¨ What does that teach? orm.) I can only remember one time off the top of my head, where a spanking was the administered punishment for disobedience on my part. As I grew older and reached my teenage years, the age of rebellionƒº, I felt as if I ¡§grew out¡¨ of spankings. However, the rebellious attitude I attained as a teenager, initiated many physical altercations between my mom and I. I always told her I couldn¡¦t believe she would lay her hands on her own child, and how horrible of a mother she was for doing so. Not realizing at the time, what a position I put her in with the things I said and did. I had the opinion
