Sitting Bulls Life

Tatanka Iyotaka, was born around 1831 and was born in the Grand River region

of South Dakota. He had a nickname which was Hunkesi, meaning "slow" because he

did nothing hurried and did things with care. He was born a Dakota Sioux. He became a

member of his first war party against the Crow at 14. Slow's father gave him a Warriors

name of Sitting Bull to show Tatanka was brave. Later in Sitting Bull's life he became

the Chief of the Hunkpapa. He became the leader of the Strong Heart warriot society,

and he successfully increased Sioux hunting grounds. In 1867 the sioux nation gathered
