The life of Tursiops Truncates (Dolphins)
Now how would you like to live in a tropical island or in the peaceful deep ocean? Not many of us have ever gone to the tropical island or even seen a real ocean before; the closest we have ever been might be in a movie, travel brochure, or in pictures. In addition, in many cases you will see the blue ocean, the white sand and tropical fish be used as a form of attraction, specially the Dolphin’s. Dolphins have been used in movies, music videos and all over travel brochure as an attraction method. Dolphins come in all different sizes and shapes. My main focus is the Tursiops truncates also known as Bottlenose Dolphins or the Grey Dolphin. Made famous by the TV show Flipper, the Bottlenose Dolphin is the most popular animal in almost all amusement parks. The Bottlenose Dolphins are easily found in the cold waters of the tropical seas worldwide. It seems to be two kind of Dolphins: a coastal form and offshore type, though they look very much alike. This Dolphin looks short and stubby with a beck, that where the name Bottlenose comes from. They are very flexible in the neck, more then any other dolphins. Bottlenose Dolphins feeding behaviors are diverse, ranging from coordinated efforts to catch food, and feedings from humans. An adult bottlenose dolphin may consumer 15-30 pounds of food each day. Bottlenose Dolphins eat wide variety of food, including fishes, squid, and crustaceans. These dolphins tend to prefer see food animals and they are very picky also on what type of food. If they decide that it’s not what they want, they will spit it out. Just like in humans where females tend to mature a lot fast then male the dolphins are the same. The Bottlenose Dolphin maturity rate differs by gender. The males reach sexual maturity at about 11 years old. Females reach sexual maturity at about 5-7 years. The gestation period is 12 months. Calving can take place year round with peak being spring and fall. Calves nurse fro over a year and stay with their mother for up to three years learning how to catch fish and other important tasks. As seen in the TV shows Flipper, the dolphins are lovable animals that enjoy interacting with humans. They are very playful and happy animals; Disney World’s main attraction is being able to swim with the dolphins. People can get to comfortable with these lovable mamm
