Hobbes states that in nature, life is “brutish, short, solitary, poor, and nasty” (Hobbes Reading) and joining society will help protect people from a premature death. Government is needed by the people to protect their natural rights. There are many different forms of government that overall perform and uphold similar duties, but the most efficient type is Democracy. The theories that Hobbes, Marx and Machiavelli wrote are reasonable and are very well supported. Though some of our thoughts and idea are not in agreement with the views of the US government, democracy allows us to express them freely. Freedom is one right that has become most important to many people. John Locke’s theory overall is best for the populace and maintains an equal and just society, through the protection of life, liberty, and property.
