The purpose of this lab is to identify multiple unknown cations in aqueous solutions. The lab was split up between group one cations, group two cations, group three cations, and group four cations. The ions were identified by multiple tests, mostly by doing different spot tests on the unknown solutions. This lab has helped the student better understand the world of aqueous solutions as well as the properties of cations in the presence of certain anions. This lab also taught the characteristics of the different groups of cations.
Get a well plate, and pour a small amount of the contents of bottle A into about six places. Add potassium chromate to one of the wells, if the solutions precipitates yellow, then it confirms the presence of lead. The solution will also have a white precipitate with both HCl and ammo
