Luke Chapter 10:25-28 - what
So, I did the text of the bible called Luke 10:25-28. It’s all about how to gain eternal life. Now in this extract, a learn-ed man of the Torah Law stands up to challenge our good friend Jesus. So it is written:‘On one occasion, an expert of the Torah Law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher”, he asks, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” So Jesus then says: “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” And so, this guy, we’ll call him a lawyer, as he’s such an expert in Torah Laws or the Jewish Laws. Well, so anyways, this lawyer guy answers: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love you neighbor as you do yourself.” So Jesus took a look at this lawyer, stared him straight in the eye and said: “Is that your final answer? Are you sure that you want to key that answer in? Well, CONGRATULATIONS! You now know how to inherit eternal life!”
This part of the scripture is also a really important one as later, the Rich Young Ruler asks Jesus the same question in Luke 18:18. When the Lawyer answers Jesus’ question of how he reads the Torah Law, he quotes from Deuteronomy 6:5, and Leviticus 19:18 respectfully. So, what does it mean to people today? Well for instance, it is a very central part of the Christian religion. It’s just as important as the 10 commandments and even has a little song made for it [switch on overhead]. So obviously, this part of the scripture is very important to all Christian peoples throughout the ages and it will continue to be important in the future as well. Yep, so that’s my people, my portion, and what people thought of it then, today and tomorrow.
